2018 Texas Tech Red Raiders Football Season

The 2018 Texas Tech Red Raiders football season was the 97th season of the program. Kliff Kingsbury was hired to replace Tom Herman, who left the program to accept the head coaching position at the University of Texas at Austin. The Raiders finished the season 5–7, 3–6 in Big 12 play to finish in a tie for eighth place. They failed to receive a bowl bid for the first time since 2013.

The Red Raiders had one of the most high-powered offenses in the country in 2018. QB Alan Bowman led the Big 12 in passing yards with 3,430 and was joined by two of the country’s most productive receivers in T.J. Vasher and Antoine Wesley. Kamahl Jones was a dangerous threat both as a running back and receiver out of the backfield, finishing third on the team in receiving yards.

Despite their success on offense, the Red Raiders struggled defensively in 2018. They finished 110th in the country in total defense, allowing 464 yards per game. Their biggest weakness was stopping the run, as they allowed 240 yards per game on the ground.
